Our Mission

To share in providing the community with a year-round schedule of affordable live theatre produced to serve the cultural, educational, and entertainment needs of the community.

To welcome and provide an avocational opportunity for all volunteers interested in the theatre arts to participate in the many activities of community theatre.

The Players

The Conejo Players was born in 1958 with a "Let's start a theatre" attitude, a meager treasury, and a handful of volunteers to build a stage in a barn and put on shows. Within seven years -- and a history of some 20-plus productions -- that attitude evolved into: "Let's build a theater!" With the generosity of the Janss Foundation and a no-interest construction loan, a 126-seat theatre opened at the current S. Moorpark Road location in July 1964. In 1974, on the tenth anniversary of the building (and nearly 50 productions later), the mortgage was paid. And after eight more years (that's another 40 Mainstage shows and eight Conejo Afternoon Theater [CAT] productions), the urge to grow lead to a new lobby, new restrooms, new theatre seats, and an increased capacity of 185.

Within the next decade (more than 40 more productions and 30 CAT shows later!), the space demanded a workshop and rehearsal/storage areas. In 1989, an 1800-square-foot expansion was added to the back of the theatre; prop, set storage, and scene shop areas were all greatly enhanced. Ten more years pass -- that's over 60 Mainstage productions, 35 CAT shows, and three Children's Theater productions -- and the interior of the auditorium began showing its age. The need to refurbish, improve, and remodel with air conditioning, improved access, and new seats became the still-ongoing "Reaching for the Stars" campaign. Due to several generous donations, the Phase One remodel was completed in 2002. And in 2005, the desire to enhance the Conejo Players' musical theatre capabilities lead to construction of an orchestra pit prior to the opening musical of the '06 season.

There's no end to the creativity here at Conejo Players Theatre. Join us!

Description:

Simplistic and repurposing best describe the theme throughout the development of the California-lifestyle bowling & restaurant project. All are welcome to enjoy the laid-back, fun, and easy entertainment with 9 lanes of bowling, a locally-sourced restaurant with delectable California-cuisine, crafted cocktails, and the region’s most fun private event facilities.

DISCOVERY’s doors open at 4pm on Mon-Thurs, 12pm on Friday, 11am on Saturday and 9am on Sunday. The patio windows will be pushed open, inviting the cool Ventura breeze into the facility and creating a welcome environment. Fun entertainment and sales initiatives targeting local companies will draw the community in to enjoy great food and drink at an incredibly affordable price.

A “finger-friendly” bowling menu offering more than just fried foods is available from open to close. Bowling will be integrated into specials to draw guests to the facility and provide a full interactive & fun experience.

The dining room is available for dinner, with a seasonal menu offering delectable cuisine sourced from Ventura County’s finest purveyors of produce and fresh seafood from Ventura Harbor. The kitchen also serves a limited dinner (late-night) menu until closing each evening. Happy Hour is served daily from 4:00 – 7:00pm featuring $5 food and drink specials!

Since 1957, this site has operated as a bowling alley. Originally built in 1942 as an A&P Grocery, the building was converted in 1957 when 10 lanes were brought over from next door (now Fuller Paint).

The building was built during WWII, thus no steel was used for the construction. Instead, the Lamella roofing style, which is a mathematical equation in and of itself, spans over 100 ft. at over 28 ft. high without any column support. It’s pretty radical, and we can’t wait for you to see it restored!

Discovery Ventura features some amazing artwork from local artist David Grizzle.

Description:

Just a few miles up Highway 33, but a world away from the headaches and traffic that thwart much of Southern California is the small town of Ojai. About 12 miles inland from Ventura, Ojai is the smallest city in Ventura County, and we are darn proud of it.

Ojai's charms are many. The community has long been known as a haven for artists, musicians and health enthusiasts. A village—as we locals call it—of about 8,000, Ojai is a vibrant place with so much natural beauty that it gained fame decades ago when the area was photographed to represent Shangri-La in the 1939 movie, The Lost Horizon.

Filled with delightful shops, art galleries and a host of places to retreat from the fast-paced lifestyle that can knot the nerves, Ojai invites you to walk its oak-shaded paths taking some time to drink in the serenity of it all.
